Planning Tool

Seat Height Planner

Enter a few measurements to determine how much additional lift your toilet needs. The calculator aims for the 17-21 inch range recommended by ADA guidance while matching the users leg length for a safe ninety-degree sitting posture.

Measure while seated with feet flat, or use knee-to-floor anthropometric charts.

Include the standard seat or padded insert the user will sit on.

How the planner works

  1. We start with the popliteal height and subtract about one inch to encourage slight knee flexion.
  2. The value is clamped to the ADA-friendly 17-21 inch range for public accessibility.
  3. We compare the target with the current bowl plus seat height to estimate additional lift.
  4. Profile adjustments widen the range for users who need higher seats to reduce joint strain.

Always have a clinician or occupational therapist review final measurements for complex mobility situations.
